My Church pre-launch party adventure

Shout Out, Uncategorized — Jeff on October 11, 2008 at 9:48 am

My Church is headed to the river! Join us Sunday, October 19, for our next pre-launch party. This is no ordinary party. We’ll be catering dinner on an island–tiki torch style–you won’t want to miss it. We’ve promised to change the way you think about church–we’re going to start by changing the way you think about parties.

Meet at the Columbus Boat Club (Lake Harding) at 5:00pm to catch a boat shuttle over to the island. Bring your own blanket or portable chair. We’ll take care of the food, music & fun. Childcare will be available at the Murphy’s apartment if you need it (call Christy at 706-221-7223).

This party is for anyone who is interested in a different kind of church, anyone who’s said they’d never do church again, or anyone wanting a new adventure in life. Come on, and bring somebody with you!

Close Call

close calls — Jeff on October 5, 2008 at 3:44 pm

I’m not usually over-the-top when it comes to God predestinating every little decision I make, but I do know that God holds everything in his hands and can do whatever he wants to do. Today my family and I were almost in a potentially fatal car accident. A guy in a full-sized truck behind us looked down to pick up his cell phone moving full speed. By the time he looked up, we had stopped, and he was about to hit us going 50 mph. Fortunately,  I saw him coming and swerved left as he swerved right to miss us on a narrow road. He put himself at risk to miss us and ended up crossing in front of us and flipping over into a ditch on our left side.

I pulled off the road with all my kids crying, and jumped out to help him. He was conscious but hurt pretty badly. All the doors were jammed. Soon another man showed up, and we were able to get a door opened and pull him out of the car.  As I stood there waiting for the rescue squad, I was overwhelmed with gratitude that God had protected us. It was God who caused me to look in my rearview mirror at just the right time and choose to swerve just the right way in a split second. It was also Him that caused the guy in the truck to swerve the other way and miss us.

I know God protected us today. I also know that He has a purpose for my family here. I have been called to reach the Columbus valley region. I am grateful for every day God gives us to serve Him.

Pray for the man who was hurt. I’m on my way to visit him in the hospital…
